Logan County Economic Development Corporation and Leeds School of Business at The University of Colorado Boulder hosted a business workshop called “Demystifying Entrepreneurship – StartUp to ScaleUp” this past weekend on July 16-17.

Back for the third of five years and taught by award-winning faculty members at CU’s Leeds School of Business, Deming Center for Entrepreneurship, Erick Mueller and Hunter Albright, this year’s program was geared towards individuals wanting to shift out of the startup phase and into “what’s next”.

“I learned so much and my passion for wanting to start this adventure is even more,” said a 2021 attendee.

Around 20 local entrepreneurs and innovators from the Sterling area banded together to learn how to take their business concepts to the next level. Participants included business owners already generating revenue as well as individuals looking to transform their idea into reality. The diverse group included the owners of a non-profit to support cancer survivors in the Sterling area, a sustainable plant pot that can be replanted directly into the ground, and a local fishing guide company.

Roger Hosea of Sterling, Colorado, attended the workshop and has developed a new plant pot made out of recycled paper. Hosea’s core business is a paper shredding service for local companies. He has tons (literally!) of recycled paper that he wanted to repurpose and has developed this pot for commercial growers as well as households. He shared, “It was so valuable to spend the day learning how I can grow my business and walked away with practical tools I can use tomorrow”.

“It’s so inspiring to work with entrepreneurs throughout the Sterling area!”, shared Mueller. “These are amazing people with real ventures that can drive impact within the community. Whether that’s building a lifestyle venture or scaling a venture and creating jobs, this innovative spirit elevates the whole community. We can’t wait to return in 2022!”

“The event was another fantastic program. The impact of these entrepreneurs on our regional economy is huge,” says Trae Miller of the Logan County Economic Development Corporation. “We want to keep the momentum going so LCEDC will be doing monthly Entrepreneur meetups. These meetups will become a network and resource for support and idea-sharing.”

Join the LCEDC at The Annex for the Entrepreneur Meetup on Thursday, July 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

This series of workshops is put on in partnership with CU’s Leeds School of Business and is available in every major rural region in Colorado. The next Demystifying – StartUp to ScaleUp workshop is being offered in Trinidad, Colorado on July 23-24, 2021. To register for this event, please visit https://www.centerci.org/cuboulder.
